Commenting on Elsa Jean when she was named 2019 Cherry of the Year, photographer Dean Capture said, “There’s something magical about Elsa. She has this innocent quality about her but also an overtly sexual side.”
That innocent quality gave Elsa a boost in her first couple years in adult career, when she made the rounds as an ingénue in such titles as 2 Cute for Porn (Evil Angel) to Cute Little Things (Digital Sin) and snagged the spotlight as one of the AVN Awards trophy girls in 2016. But it’s her sexual heat that has kept Elsa Jean on top since her 2015 debut—including back-to-back nominations for AVN’s Female Performer of the Year.
Elsa’s as big a fan of Capture and Cherry Pimps as he is of her. “They’re so sweet. I shot for them back over the summer. I was June Cherry of the Month. And then in December I did a live show for them, and right before the live show they told me I was Cherry of the Year. I also love Dean Capture. I love that company because they use him.”
To mark her Cherry of the Year status, Elsa shot three solo scenes, a boy/girl scene co-starring Jay Smooth, and a girl/girl scene with India Summer.
“I love India Summer,” Elsa says, and she goes on to list some of her other top scene partners. “I love Alexis Fawx. I love Riley Reid. And then for guys I love Small Hands, Charles Dera—of course like Manuel [Ferrara] and Mick Blue. Ramon [Nomar], he’s great.” She laughs and says, “I guess, like, all the older performers for some reason are my favorite people to work with. People who have been in for a little bit—they’re all so kind. But India Summer is my favorite. … She’s so sweet; she’s such a great person. She’s very smart—she’s a lovely person.”
“Sweet” is definitely an adjective one could use to describe Elsa Jean herself. In fact, the star herself says she tends toward a lighter performance style. “I don’t do that rough of scenes. If you notice, I do more lovey-dovey scenes because that’s just more my style.”
It’s not that she’s opposed to a hard scene. Rather, she explains, “I try to have sex in my scenes like I do in real life, and that’s really romantic with lots of kissing. … I feel like the fans can tell. That’s what they want to see.”
The slender, youthful blonde also has a marked preference for roles that demand some acting. “I actually really enjoy it. I notice I’m on set more with dialogue and I appreciate that. … I can play different characters and be someone else. I’ve played so many different roles.” She mentions the shy and stuttering introvert she played in Talk Derby to Me and the sexually inexperienced college student at the center of Becoming Elsa (both from Sweetheart Video/Mile High Media).
“I play the shy teen—that’s definitely my go-to,” she says, even though after several years in the business, she has experience aplenty. But along the way she’s felt safe and sheltered with her first agent, Mark Schechter of AMTLA. “I’m so thankful to have him. He’s taken his time with me and guided me on the right path.”
Schechter thinks he’s been the lucky one. “Having the ultimate pleasure and honor to represent Elsa Jean since the start of her illustrious career almost four years ago, I have seen firsthand the hard work, professionalism and dedication Elsa has always demonstrated throughout her career. Its always rewarding for me and my staff to witness someone like Elsa come into this industry at the young age of 18, and do everything right and then benefit as Elsa continues to do. We are grateful to share in this experience.”
When we talked to Elsa in the winter, she planned to take a couple of months off until April, when she would focus on Snapchat and feature dancing. “I do feature dance almost twice a month and I travel everywhere,” she says. And in addition to Snapchat, she also keeps up with fans on Twitter and Instagram.
“I really enjoy Snapchat,” she says. She likes the transitory nature of the posts, and how they disappear after 24 hours. “On Instagram you have everything on there—it’s too much to see almost. I like Snapchat because every day it’s something new.” She particularly likes doing Snapchat takeovers for Fleshlight and the companies that she shoots for, such as Naughty America and Cherry Pimps.
Though she’s not immune from encountering the occasional “nasty people who are rude,” Elsa says “the majority of people who follow me are really nice. … I remember my first apartment, when I came to L.A., was all furnished by fans on social media. They’re all so sweet. I do have my favorites who get ahold of me on Twitter and who comment on every post.”
She also uses social media to promote her Fleshlights. “It’s just a simple swipe up,” she says. “I’m so thankful that they let me be a Fleshlight Girl—it’s really rewarding every month. … That was one of my goals when I first got in.”
Other milestones included shooting for magazine layouts, including Hustler’s Barely Legal and Taboo. “I was on the cover of both of those,” she says, and she recently shot for Hustler again. She’s also looking forward to doing a showcase movie.
When she’s not working, Elsa indulges in two passions.
The first is traveling—which she enjoys doing for work and pleasure. She rarely goes back home to Ohio, though; she’d rather bring her relatives out here to sunny California. She caught the travel bug when she first got into porn. “ATK took me to Asia, and then InTheCrack.com took me to Mexico,” she recalls. Since then, she says, “I go overseas a lot. I love Asia; I love Europe. … I basically save my money to travel.”
The other passion must be enjoyed closer to home.
“I am obsessed with my two pugs and I have to talk about then whenever I talk to someone,” she admits. “I mainly spend my time with my pugs.” But because of their snub noses, pugs don’t travel well in planes. “Otherwise I would bring them everywhere,” she sighs. “Anywhere I drive, I’ll definitely bring them.”
Elsa continues, “Olivia is the oldest one—she’s a fawn pug. She’s four years old. And Olga is the youngest one—she’s only 14 weeks old.” Unlike Olivia, who was so well behaved that Elsa says she “didn’t even have to discipline her,” Olga is a bit of a terror. “It is what it is—I hope she grows out of it,” Elsa muses. “It’s mainly my fault. I’m not a yeller and I don’t spank; she gets to do what she wants. … My first pug wasn’t like that; Olga is just a whole other situation—she just has to go to the trainer. That’s the only way.”
But despite any behavioral issues, Elsa couldn’t be happier about her two companions. “If you want a dog to love you, I would get a pug,” she says.
